Heart-eater

Kzine editor Graeme Hurry included a story of mine in Kzine’s issue #24, just published. “Heart-eater” is a favorite of mine and not just because I spent so much time revising it! As you all know, I spent many years teaching U.S. History. My favorite time of the school year was when we delved into the American West. Kids were fascinated by the mountain men: Jedediah Smith, Hugh Glass, Jim Bridger and especially John Jeremiah Johnson – the liver eater. Robert Redford cleaned up some of Johnson’s adventures and made them into a fine movie. I did the same, only I took him to a frontier in outer space. I’m most interested to see what you folks think of my efforts! It’s an excellent anthology.
